Checklist for Preparing your Quilt for Quilting
Do NOT layer or baste quilt layers together. This will be done on the machine
Are all loose thread trimmed on top & backing?
Check that there are no frayed or unsewn seams.
Borders & Top are not Wavy.
Make sure your corners are square
Backstitch the outside seams or topstitch the entire outside edge at 3/16”.
Quilt top & backing are pressed?
Please mark the top of your quilt with a safety pin and note paper so we can see how you see your quilt.
No embellishing please. The quilt cannot be quilted properly with obstacles in the way. Add them later
Please refrain from using sheets as your backing. They have a tighter weave and the fabric is not the same quality as quilting fabric.
Quilt top & backing seams pressed in proper direction?
Busy backing prints hides threads and make starts and stops less obvious. Also Color of backing should coordinate with top.
All selvages must be trimmed from backing fabric, especially at seams.
Use 1/2” seams on backing, if possible. For more secure seam, backstitching at ends.
